上個月有機會到杭州參加四天的U理論基礎課程。對於學習引導多年的我，多年前接觸U時並沒有太大的震撼，因為U和我所學的團隊引導有異曲同工之處，重視運用些引導的工具與歷程啟動多元利益相關者的智慧與承諾，共同促動改變。這次有完整的四天沉浸在高能量的場域中，與一群從生態系統看變革者共學共感，才意識到我是用1.0版的操作系統看待4.0版的可能性。四天中打開思維，打開心靈，感知到Ｕ的整合性與宏觀性，更是牢記住Otto的教誨: U是創新變革理論中的一個理論；是知行合一的整合；「萬物互利」彼此的關係才是改變最大的催化劑，而對話的品質又決定了關係的品質。對於宗旨是<引導對話促進正向改變>的朝邦基金會, 有醍醐灌頂的力量!也期盼與有心人共同創造容器， 持續學習與實踐!
五月二十五日起在杭州春雨煙氤的良渚文化園區裡，有幸參與了的麻省理工教授Otto Scharmer與團隊親自帶領的自然湧現基礎課程 PFP (Presencing Foundation Program)，本課程是為讀過U型理論/U型變革等書的未來實踐家所開授，共聚集了六十位學員，助教群及行政團隊人數高達四十人，就學習本身及行政流程都給了我前所未有且相當愉快的學習經驗。
Otto Scharmer 延續了MIT Sloan School of Management知名的系統學習研究方向，提出進行另一層次的反思 -大多數人解決問題方式是向過去學習、遵循邏輯數據等工具，而U提出另一種框架和方法論，幫助理解與實踐另一種學習可能- 向正在生成的未來學習。透過傾聽自己內在覺知、打開自己思維、心靈、意志及讓自有我成為容器等途徑向未知學習。 每一天早上課程是由靜坐練習開始的、體察思緒、心念與身體的關聯。除了Otto教授的講授外，團隊還帶入如3D沙盤雕塑、社會大劇院、穿越卡殼，種子舞蹈、4D雕塑等等, 都是我從未曾在任一個管理課程裡體驗過的學習。所謂的向未來學習、談的就是放下腦 - 那些計算、評論、比較等早已被腦高度訓練過的技能，課程中所帶入的各種身體練習或許有些熟悉，也就是信任身體知覺、讓心帶領、看見自然流現出的，暫無法給它一個定義、名稱，而自己知道「就是那個」的東西。 個人經過與心深層的對話、聽見生命的召喚。就組織面來說 也就是讓組織議題經過共同啟動、共同感知、自然流現、結晶和建立新觀念原型此一過程，達成轉變。這已是一個心科學的年代，U理論的出現正是意識進化的呈現，做為推動社會變革的新工具、相當令人欣賞。
，隨後立刻找來中文版一讀，那種我心亦然的深刻感受。在商業領域越久，常常不免陷入一種追求成長的迷失，不斷追求卻給我帶來一種深深的挫折感。同時台灣政經進入困局、下一代翻轉艱辛，社會彷彿陷入了一種單向鏡思維 - 總在正/反、贊成/反對中為難著。 對話力不足、當然也就無法深層連結而產生新視角。U型理論所提倡的-反轉向內看，由心出發，深層的與自然、環境、社會場域連結的一種能力，是正中我心，一種我早已這麼覺得、既熟悉又當然的方式。此時此刻，這個世界不正需要協助全人類意識進化，由愛出發的領導力嗎 ?
Otto分享到多年前拜訪南懷瑾大師時的覺醒經驗，南師認為人類當前問題的根本是來自於物質與心靈的無能整合，Otto彷彿就在那一霎那明白自已準備了多年，就是為了這件事而來。同樣的，在edX網站上U課程中那些受訪的案例中，都可看到一共同點 - 就是聽到了生命的呼喚、知道這件事非幹不可，而改變了看世界的觀點。這次聽同學分享中國的U實踐經驗更是令人驚艷 -他們稱- 萬物生長的百草園。果真如此，不論是學校、商業組織、NGO等，都以一種清新、不設限的方式迎接各種思維，談的都是如何增進人類幸福、利他等等的目標，與其各自的商業目標也不違和。這稱為「生態」- 這詞字用得好-是一種各自茂盛生長、各種元素皆有、又能在彼此之間取得平衡的一種生存方式。共同建造的場域裡，多元、流動、各自奔放，多棒 ! 衷心希望我的家鄉- 台灣也能啟動一場共同感知之旅，反轉視角，放下「我」一同走上建造生態圈之旅。

From Ego to Eco : A journey of Revolution

Last month, I had the chance to attend a 4-day U-Theory class in Hangzhou, China. As a practitioner of facilitation for years, I connected to the principles of the U Theory right away because both methods apply tools and experiential learning to ignite wisdom and commitment from diverse stakeholders. During my 4 days learning about Theory U, I realized that I had been using what the Theory U framework calls "a 1.0-edition operating system to look at a 4.0-edition of possibilities". The learning experience opened my mind and allowed me to see the integrative and visionary power of the U Theory. I am moreover inspired by Otto Scharmer’s reminder that "U is an integration of theory and practice about innovative transformation." From this workshop, I learned that relationships based on mutual benefits are the biggest game changer. And that the quality of dialogue determines the quality of relationships. For CP Yen Foundation whose mission is to “foster the art of dialogue and facilitate positive social change”, the reminder is invigorating and enlightening! We really hope there will be more people to co-create spaces for further learning and doing!

From Ego to Eco: A journey of Revolution

On May 25th 2018, at the Liangzhu Cultural Village amidst the Hangzhou spring rain, I had the privilege to attend the Presencing Foundation Program facilitated by Dr. Otto Scharmer of MIT . The program was organized for facilitators and practitioners who had previously studied U Theory and have read Otto's books including "Leading from the Emerging Future". About 60 participants and 40 assistants and administrative staff attended the program. The program and the operating process together created an amazing and unprecedented learning experience for me.
Otto Scharmer expanded on a foundation of systems thinking developed at the MIT Sloan School of Management and proposed some reflections from a different perspective. While most people solve problems by referring to the past, Theory U raises a different possibility - a way of learning from the emerging future by listening to our inner self through a process of opening our heart, our mind and our will.
During the program, we started each day with meditation to sense our thoughts and observe the connection between our mind and body. Management courses which I've experienced in the past were not at all like Otto’s lectures and activities such as 3D sand Sculpture, Social Presencing Theater, Break Away from the Shell, Seed Dance, 4D Sculpture. Theory U teaches that learning from the future requires letting go - letting go of one's skills in calculating, judging, and comparing which standard education develops well. Some of the Theory U practices were somewhat familiar, intended to train our ability to trust our own sense of awareness, to follow our heart, and to be aware of what emerges naturally. Although sometimes we may not be able to define what we see, we will know it when we feel it. Following the process, one engages in a dialogue with one's "inner heart" to hear one's life calling. Theory U process of co-initiating, co-sensing, presencing, co-inspiring, and co-creating to transform can be applied for both personal and organisational development. I believe that the emergence of U Theory reflects the evolution of our individual and collective consciousness. After the program, I learned to truly appreciate this new tool for social transformation.
The first time I encountered Theory U's four levels of listening and conversation was in the CP Yen Foundation’s newsletter (http://cp-yen.ning.com/profiles/blogs/3-4-levels-of-listening-and-conversation). When I first read the Chinese edition of the book U Theory to learn further, the feeling of instant resonance lingered for a long time.
In my long career, I have often felt a paradox in learning: the more I pursued learning, the more frustrated I felt. At the same time, our society seemed to have come to a deadlock of uni-directional thinking - we were always torn between two ends of everything. Without dialogue, there is no deeper connection and consequently no other perspectives. The idea of looking inside our heart proposed by U Theory to connect deeply with nature, environment, and society went straight to my heart. It’s a familiar feeling that had been inside me all this time! Isn’t it the perfect moment for U Theory, a perfect time that needs leadership that guides humans to evolve his consciousness and sets off to the future with love?
Otto shared his experience of awakening upon meeting Master Nan Huai-Chin. Master Nan stated that the source of the problems we face was the inability to integrate the material world with our inner world. At that moment, Otto realized all the preparation he had done previously was for that moment of understanding. Similarly, from all the cases shared during the U class, there was a common point among them: each case giver had heard their calling and knew it was something they had to do. It had changed their view toward the world. During the program, the experiences of practising U Theory in China shared by other participants were all so inspiring. They described U as the garden where everything grows. Indeed, participants from schools, corporates, and NGOs all embraced the diverse opinions with a fresh and boundary-free openness. We discussed how to make people happy and to make it a better world for others. These objectives did not have to be conflicting with their business targets, rather our life and society can be perceived as an ecosystem where everything blossoms and finds a balance to coexist. A world of co-creation is diverse, fluid, and blossoming. That’s just wonderful! I sincerely hope my home, Taiwan, will soon initiate a co-sensing journey, let go of our “ego” and move toward a journey of co-creating the “eco”.
